Derived from the idea by Jon (Moun10bike) Stanley to map the Northwestern states I have decided that it would be appropriate to follow suit with the exception of mapping the Northeast instead.
You can read his full details on his ongoing project in the Northwest forum on Groundspeak. Or visit his page directly and download the map he has created.
To summarize what I am talking about without going into much details, this project is taking GPS trails data and GIS information to create maps that can be loaded onto a GPS for future use. Imagine walking through the woods on a small unknown deer trail and being able to follow it on your GPS. Not only will you never be lost again because you own a GPS, but with these maps you will never have to bushwack your way back to civilization.
I can't do this alone though! I need your help. What can you do? Next time you go walking out in the woods or on some other trail activate the tracks on your GPS. Come back to this site and upload these tracks to the forum here. (There is no need for a third party site, this forum will let you upload easily).
My first objective will be to create a list of instructions for less experienced users to complete this task. Until then, this post is about all I have done so far so I have a lot of work to do and could very well use some help if you are willing. Visit the forum here. (Watch the forum for future updates as its easier and not a formal to post updates there). |

We have created a new site called CNY Outside.com. I noticed that while trying to find trail maps, or someone else to talk to about certain things it proved to be very difficult as I couldn't find a place that talked about these topics and was local. So instead of sitting around complaining about it I became part of the solution and created CNYOutside.com. I am still in the developmental stages of it and collection trail maps and other information in the area. This part will take me a while to include everything however the forum will be open and most things will appear there first, as it is easier and a little more informal. Keep an eye on it cause it is new and will be going through a lot of changes for a short while. |

Now he has 5 screws in his leg and will have to go back to surgery and physical therapy for the next year. Basically he messed himself up pretty good. So here you go Aaron. A list of links so you can have braggin right amongst your friends and battle buddies. Just get better and lets stay try to stay out of the trees. |
